Song of the Caged Bird

Feathers
line the bottom of the cage
Eyes
Stare blankly from between bars of yellow

Freedom, freedom

Sunlight
casts light on the dust floating in the air
Wind
playfully tugs on wings and feathers, beckoning

Freedom, freedom

Noise
cries of family and friends beg for you to come play
Songs
dance along the soft wind that whistles through fallen feathers

Freedom, freedom

Black
the color of captor's hearts, imprisoned souls, of loss
Golden
the color of the setting sun, of feathers, of freedom

Freedom, freedom

Life
   brought by freedom
Death
brought by the song of the caged bird

  1. I like the arrangement of your stanzas here and the refrain of "Freedom, Freedom" between each. And beautiful imagery in the lines about feathers lining the bottom of the cage, the sunlight shining on the dust in the air, the golden setting sun.
